Actually, every time an octopus regrows an arm, it has to regrow a whole new miniature brain and a new network of neurons to do it - it's up to 40 million per arm, I think? Each arm has its own tiny brain, and then the main octopus body itself has a slightly larger brain in their head for a total of nine.

...If the one on the table is not him but in fact the octopus, and they find his arm somewhere, there's a not small chance it could still move around.... though, I guess I don't know how that works with a shapeshifting octopus.
