the most obvious thing out of place for lu bixing and gideon to take notice of is that there is something in the sand a little ways away from the shoreline. since lu bixing is checking the ground, this area also has some disturbed sand.
when gideon looks out at the lava, she sees something in the distance...? something on the horizon...
and itto checks out the beach chairs and umbrellas. they are all in good condition! but the sand near them is disturbed, leading away from the beach. ]
