WEEK THREE - TRIAL

Hello, deadlings. We're right back at it, huh?

You may have been wondering what you could possibly do in the aftermath of yesterday's beek. Your demons weren't entirely helpful, and it seems that there were no answers to be found. But on Saturday morning at 11am, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. The Execution Bar is locked tight and you won't be able to head in that direction. Instead, once again, your feet navigate you to the building on the right as the door creaks open.

Inside is a bar. It's dimly lit in several places, but bright enough for you to see each other and navigate without running into the furniture. Tables and chairs are scattered around in front of the bar counter, and the floor is far less sticky than the bar on the other island. Stained glass windows decorate the walls depicting images of humanity's suffering, and concrete crosses and tombstones are gathered in the corners. The bar itself is fully stocked with all types of alcohol and mixers, along with an array of bar food to help keep your energy up.

At the head of the room lounging among the statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin are Bloody Mary, Malibu Sunset and RosΓ©. With them is also a cut-out of Guy Fieri, dressed as a (sexy?) samurai with a bunch of cool flames cut out of construction paper glued to his back as he walks away from an explosion. He is also holding a sign that says "YOU CAN SOLVE IT!" However, there are now paper tears glued to his face as well.

Above them hangs another hand-painted banner, sloppily thrown together.

CONGRATS ON YOUR TRIAL!
12pm - 9pm
Vote or suffer eternal damnation

You can try to leave, but the door to the bar has been locked. All of the windows are reinforced, and there isn't another way out. You've been called here for one reason...let the misery begin!

Hello, and welcome to your fourth trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about this week's murder! Characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, we have a voting page for characters to vote on the culprit! Please be sure to read this page carefully and that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST).

Good luck, and have fun!

...feels a little contrived at that point, doesn't it, especially a second week in a row. Would it even be a murder if you just happened to be there when a snake fatally bit someone?
ontrend: (022)

[personal profile] ontrend 2023-03-05 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
...that's not what I'm getting at.

[...]

What if whoever did it, did it so he wouldn't be in as much pain? Because nothing was stopping the poison?
voidshift: (lowe3)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
...some kind of mercy kill?

[ugh. fuck.]

Didn't sound like anything else would have done it, though.

...I know, but... given the circumstances...

[glances over at gideon talking to uriel about the feather and the metal...]

...I'm not saying I'm not considering it, just that if there's a different cause of death, we're not seeing it.

...head injuries can be lethal if you get hit with enough force, I think. Isn't that why people are like, yo, be sure to watch someone if they get a concussion, don't just let them sleep it off...?
voidshift: (lowe2)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
They can, but how big did Chandra say-- quarter-sized? I'd expect more if it was lethal.
outsidebones: (up but not out)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-03-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I just checked. The hit on his head would not have been enough to kill him.

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Beat me to it. Thank you.

[giving her a little nod.]

So unless something else comes up at the last second we're still working with-- just the venom.
failbo: (can I lie here forever?)

[personal profile] failbo 2023-03-05 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Killing him out of mercy? Um...that would be kinda understandable, but...here, where if you do that, you'd die too...?

[That's the part that makes Filbo doubt it a little. It'd be throwing your own life away, alongside the one you're mercy killing]
ontrend: (027)

[personal profile] ontrend 2023-03-05 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
...I mean, we've been kinda-sorta able to contact the people who have been killed already, so if someone cared enough about someone who was in pain... it might be worth the risk to them.
failbo: (If only I could)

[personal profile] failbo 2023-03-05 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe so, but...

[Other couple objections come to mind, but...truthfully, if someone would be willing to mercy kill in hell out of care for someone, those objections don't fit. In the end, he nods]

Right. Maybe you're right.
onlythans: (πŸ’” i don't give a shit)

[personal profile] onlythans 2023-03-05 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
There's another alternative to consider, I suppose.

He might've gone willingly. To intentionally try to join the others, wherever they've gone. And someone might've found that compelling enough to assist him in it.
teufelshund: (much much MORE homework)

[personal profile] teufelshund 2023-03-05 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
What doesn't feel contrived by now?

I suppose it could have been an accident while fending off a snake, or it could have been a mercy killing if the effects of the poison were too painful.
voidshift: (lowe3)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's sounded like it was the bite that got him, is the problem. If there was a mercy kill involved, what actually killed him.
teufelshund: (i'm sorry why not after)

[personal profile] teufelshund 2023-03-05 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
The blow to the head with the bottle?
voidshift: (lowe9)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
It was described as a bump on the head, seems like an unlucky way to die to me.
outsidebones: (your teeth are bones that live outside)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-03-05 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
As ridiculous as the octopus murder was, Lavi was the one who did the final blow. If the killing blow was the snake acting alone, I doubt it would count as a murder.
voidshift: (Default)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
There had to be someone involved in the way he actually died, sure, I haven't been assuming he was bitten accidentally. We did find that net.
outsidebones: (all they want is another chance)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-03-05 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
...Mm. Did someone catch the snake and unleash it on him?
voidshift: (Default)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-03-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I was figuring, anyway.
engineers: (next time your boss get mad at you)

[personal profile] engineers 2023-03-05 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...this timeline. ]

What if Uriel set the snake as a trap for the... hamster. It was in a hole in the wall, wasn't it? And Zagreus got bitten, instead?
outsidebones: (πŸ’€ skull)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-03-05 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
...I hate that damn hamster, too, but if I woke in the night, setting a trap for it would not be my first priority.

Additionally, I do not think killing it would have required an elaborate snake trap.

It's Hell. [ ... ] If they want to make it hurt, they'd take the whatever or whoever dealt the final blow as the culprit. No matter what the intention was behind it.
