my chemical romance........

[ wanders over here sniffling and rubbing his nose, however: ]

Chemicals "E", "L" and "C" are ethanol, liquid sodium hydroxide, and chloroform. Liquid sodium hydroxide is also known as lye. It's extremely caustic, and can give off heat when reacting with moisture in the air, which can be enough to light a fire if placed near a flammable material. It's likely the cause of the burns on his fingers. That could be why the coal was near it, but... honestly, I have more questions about this than anything else. It wouldn't be a bad idea to look for chemical burns - and I think we should check people's clothing, as well, just in case. It could burn through almost anything if it's exposed for long enough.

That being said, the fire in the biome was from the ethanol based on the wine smell. And then Chemical C... I don't know if we've found any chloroform anywhere but on his body, yet, but I think most of us know what that does. If you inhale it for too long, it acts as an anesthetic that will knock someone unconscious.

All three test tubes were still full, so these may have just been backups.
