WEEK FIVE: EXECUTION

Hello, deadlings.

You were so confident in your choice yesterday. Can you stand by it now? Lucky you, the weekend "fun" isn't over just yet.

On Sunday morning, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. You won't be able to look at the one on the right now, the one you've come to know as the trial bar. Instead, your feet navigate you to the building on the left as the door creaks open. On your way in, you notice some posters hung beside the door, advertising today's event.

Inside is a bar. It's pretty swanky in comparison to the others you've seen, tables and chairs arranged comfortably for everyone to have a seat and spread out however they'd like. The bar is fully stocked with all kinds of alcohol along with an arrangement of bar food for anyone who's feeling a bit peckish. At the head of the room, there appears to be a stage washed in red lights with a wide area for performances.

At a table in the corner all six demons are gathered around. All of them appear to have left behind their work uniforms and are clustered together in a dark corner, watching the stage with various ranges of interest.

As you find your seats and get yourself something to drink, darkness begins to fill the bar and a banner unfurls over the stage.

No matter where you look, you will find that Tuuri is not amongst you. But there isn't time to look further before the lights dim and the curtains draw.

[ as darkness settles around the room and the red lights glow brighter, two figures walk across the stage. the lights adjust, making it difficult to see who they are at first, but a soft shimmer appears around the area to create an impenetrable barrier.

whatever's about to happen...well, the audience may look, but they can't touch. ]

[ Your reactions go here. There's space to sit back and enjoy the performance, and while the doors are closed you really could leave if you absolutely wanted. But will you...? You can't leave to interfere with the stage or the ongoings that are occurring, but with a little push you can slip through the exit any time after it starts. ]

[he's here, but he's not going to enjoy watching this.

he's seated and gripping some kind of alcoholic beverage so hard his knuckles are turning white.]

[No way he's going to miss any of this. There's Filbo, deathly silent, watching the stage and waiting to see how this goes.

Mistakes were made in the trial and, well, it's time to see the final result of it all. It's the least he can do, really]

[ hello i’m still out but date is here looking less than pleased ]

[ i have to leave for work in an hour, but dva is here and so is yoru!! he is still a sleepy lil man, curled up in her arms.

she’s just sitting quietly, waiting for things to start… really hate it here. ]

[Hunter looks like he's about to vibrate out of his skin today, staring at the stage and holding onto his table with a white knuckled grip. Flapjack is also perched on his shoulder as usual, softly warbling something that at least gets a nod out of him, every once in a while.]

[As soon as Tuuri is on the stage, she looks hesitant. She takes her time looking around at the setting, the lights, the people in the crowd. It's a sight she had never wanted to see, something she would have avoided like the plague normally. But that choice has been taken away from her.

She scratches at her left shoulder uncomfortably as she takes one last look around at everything, taking in the faces of everyone who is still here. Then she looks to the person across from her and speaks with a bit of sadness to her voice.]

Hey...long time no see?

[A weak attempt at humor, it hasn't been that long.]

Look, let's just do this quickly, okay? We both know how these things go, and it's better to do it before...you know.

[ mephisto is here with a drink as always, though this time he's also paying a little more attention to his fellow audience members rather than focusing strictly on the story about to play out on stage. ]

[My mans never SITS. But it’s fine, he looks about ready to jump straight out of his skin and through the door.

So walking out will probably happen sooner or later maybe.]

[ well, we're here. lu bixing is silent, sitting closer to the back today, medkit on the table and gripping a glass so tightly it looks like it's about to break in his hand. ]

[In a very unsurprising turn of events, Zelgadis is the one to join her on the stage. He doesn't look around. He only looks at her.

His hand goes to his waist, then feels around his cloak. It seems he's without any weapons. He looks at his bare hands, then lifts his gaze to meet hers, with fear in his eyes. Of course, he'd be strong enough to end this quickly. He knows he is.]

But...

[He can't do it. Not like this.]

[she's also here, leaning against the wall next to the door.]

[ he's here! sadge. ]

[Oh. All the weapons are gone, right. He can't kill her as easily as she had been hoping for. Damn.

Her shadow stirs beneath her, starting to form into something, but she hasn't noticed it quite yet. The movements are too subtle.]

Oh...then, um...how about your cloak? Smothering an work, right?

[As if that would be any easier for Zel to do. Tuuri knows why he's hesitating, and she can't blame him for it. But it does make her anxious of what is to come.]

Or anything else, I'm open to ideas, even if they hurt. I just don't want the shadows to get involved.

[ man no one is gonna like this one

(wicked voice) let’s fucking goooooooo back to the beginningggggg ]

[He walks over, and puts a hand on her shoulder. Looking down at her, considering her expression.]

Are you really sure about this? I...

[He could break her neck. It would be quick. But... what if there was still another way? Something, anything other than...

... His focus is broken, as he's forced to turn away and cough into his hand. Pale blue petals drift to the floor.]

Zel-

[She's about to reach out for him in concern, to make sure he's okay. The flowers aren't new but she's wondering why they continued even to today. How is Zel supposed to do this if he's coughing up flowers?

But she's stopped when she feels a hand clamp down on her arm, stopping her. She freezes mid-step, the only movement being her eyes as she glances down to see the shadowy hand that is grabbing her. Then, slowly, she seems to regain her movement, and she turns to see who is grabbing her.

She is met with a shadow version of herself.]

What...

[A wispy voice is all that comes from the shadow Tuuri.

Selfish.

And that one word makes Tuuri draw in a sharp breath as her eyes widen in panic.]

[hm.

glances at him when zel starts coughing up flowers because uhhhhh :slown:]

That's... new.

[Zelgadis turns with alarm, stepping in to grab the shadow's arm, to pry it away from Tuuri. But facing the shadow, seeing Tuuri's face once again, he hesitates to do more than try to shove it away.

In the meantime, his own shadow stretches out behind him, its form growing and warping into something solid. It's unclear what, yet.]

"Hanahaki disease". A fictional disease and romance trope originating in Japanese media and subsequently popularized by fandom.

[When Zel shoves the shadowy arm away, the shadow stands still for just a moment.

And then that same arm abruptly bursts, stripping itself down to bone as the fingers of the hand elongate into long, sharp claws, something more akin to an animals paw than a human hand.

Why do you run?

The shadow's other arm- the left one- starts to bubble up from the shoulder down and expand and grow into something equally monstrous, just as sharp as the first but somehow worse because of the added mass around the arm.

Why do you keep fighting?

Tuuri covers her mouth in horror and tries to back away from this transformation. She can't really escape it though, as the shadow still remains connected to her at her feet. After a couple steps she falls backwards, sitting on the stage as the shadow grows taller and taller, limbs distorting and twisting in ways that shouldn't be humanly possible.

Why do you keep lying to all of them?

A couple dozen small, thin protrusions break out of shadow!Tuuri's chest, growing out to form long, skinny legs, and the shadow!Tuuri hunches forward to balance itself on them, now looking so monstrous that it's difficult to recognize the human that once stood there. The shadows mouth opens in a silent scream of agony, but all that comes out are the same wispy words as before.

Do you really think you can avoid this future if you keep pretending everything is okay?]

...It was happening last night, too.

[ what? the fuck? ]

he squints tiredly with his very limited human fandom knowledge.]

It's an "anime" thing?
