WEEK TWO - TRIAL

Hello, deadlings. Wow. Just...wow.

You may have been wondering what you could possibly do in the aftermath of yesterday's beek. Your demons weren't entirely helpful, and it seems that there were no answers to be found. But on Saturday morning at 11am, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. The Execution Bar is locked tight and you won't be able to head in that direction. Instead, once again, your feet navigate you to the building on the right as the door creaks open.

Inside is a bar. It's dimly lit in several places, but bright enough for you to see each other and navigate without running into the furniture. Tables and chairs are scattered around in front of the bar counter, and the floor is far less sticky than the bar on the other island. Stained glass windows decorate the walls depicting images of humanity's suffering, and concrete crosses and tombstones are gathered in the corners. The bar itself is fully stocked with all types of alcohol and mixers, along with an array of bar food to help keep your energy up.

At the head of the room lounging among the statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin are Blue Hawaiian, Cosmopolitan and Midori.

Above them hangs another hand-painted banner, sloppily thrown together.

You can try to leave, but the door to the bar has been locked. All of the windows are reinforced, and there isn't another way out. You've been called here for one reason...let the misery begin!

Hello, and welcome to your third trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about this week's murder! Characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, we have a voting page for characters to vote on the culprit! Please be sure to read this page carefully and that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST).

It still kind of fits, like, what would be even worse to find than murder evidence? Another dead body!

TBH, I'd expect like, a tankful of arms to be what they'd be dreading finding.

That or bodies of other people and then the demons would just be like, "Oh, what? You don't remember that person? They've been here with you the whole time! Rude!"

But actually - I wonder if we're looking at this wrong. What if it's not about what we were dreading finding?

When that thing showed me Tsukimi earlier in the week, I wanted to bust up the glass and get her out of there, and it was only like, Monday.

Imagine how on-edge someone would already be if they found themselves awake on the night when someone was probably going to die. And then they walk into that room and see someone that looks like one of us in that tank...

So are you thinking they weren't expecting to be awake? They just knew someone was going to die, and decided that it wasn't going to be them?

Did anyone talk much with Bucky or Four after they were caught? Like, I doubt either of them would have really said much about what they did or why they did it, but... anything would help.

Dunno. I wasn't awake, so I couldn't say. But if that was the case... imagine this - someone said the octopus got all stabby when it was out of the tank before, right? So they freak out, try to help what they think is that guy stuck in the tank, and then that thing in his form attacks them, so they fight back and run off.

...

And then run into the real thing somewhere else. That would be pretty freaky.

[he hums, thinking about it.]

Didn't really talk much with Bucky - I was too pissed off with him. I tried with Four, but nothing really came of it. Maybe I didn't ask the right questions.

Do you think the demons would be willing to give us a whiteboard, or would they just tell us to go write our theories on Guy Fieri?

I think they'd probably tell us to use Bicker...

[ wait you know who's prepared for this. lu bixing!! he takes out his fancy rainbow dry erase marker and gives it a twirl and then hands it to persephone!!! ]

It writes on the stained glass.

[ quietly. :( ] Neither had much to say about the mechanics of it all, though - to me, it's seemed at least a little premeditated. Why would only one person wake up besides the one who did the killing, if that wasn't the case...? Four very specifically sought out Eto, but whether that was on Thursday or days before, I don't know.

...sounded premeditated to me with her, too. I've got my own thoughts about why, but I don't know if it's really relevant here.

No - and I'd rather not talk about it, to be honest. Let's focus on the case at hand before we get too deep into any theorizing.

[yeah, no disagreement. he nods and pats his arm with the hand that's not holding his drink.]

I don't know how much trust you put into what they say, but the demons said it's all us. Like... we're the ones doing it if it happens. We're deciding to kill each other.

[engineers]

[ he nods. ]

Motive can be found in all kinds of places, and all kinds of ways. It's rarely a one size fits all situation - particularly in the unique one we've all found ourselves in here.

[ Hell ]

Bucky said that Hunter was a murder of opportunity. Hunter'd gone to check on him, since they were roommates, when things went weird that first night.

He didn't really have much regret about it, especially considering he essentially hunted him down from the dorms to the lab.

Yeah, I talked to Bucky a little. Seems to me Bucky was doing this on his own free will, so...guess there's some level of intent involved to stay awake when it's murder night...

[He didn't talk to Four, though. She being Eto's murderer, Filbo wanted nothing to do with her]

Yeah. Yeah it sure sounds like there's intent here, at least of some kind.

But why just jump to murder at all is where I'm stuck. I know people always say that mortals have been killing each other for as long as they've existed, but this all seems so extreme to me.

With him, it was because he said he found a party poster that was crumpled and ripped up talking about the party limit. So he just - jumped on it out of desperation.

He said he had to get back, to make sure that his "Cap" survives what killed him.

When I talked to Bucky he mentioned something about getting a second chance at life. So maybe there is more incentive than just some party at the end of this.
