WEEK TWO - TRIAL

Hello, deadlings. Wow. Just...wow.

You may have been wondering what you could possibly do in the aftermath of yesterday's beek. Your demons weren't entirely helpful, and it seems that there were no answers to be found. But on Saturday morning at 11am, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. The Execution Bar is locked tight and you won't be able to head in that direction. Instead, once again, your feet navigate you to the building on the right as the door creaks open.

Inside is a bar. It's dimly lit in several places, but bright enough for you to see each other and navigate without running into the furniture. Tables and chairs are scattered around in front of the bar counter, and the floor is far less sticky than the bar on the other island. Stained glass windows decorate the walls depicting images of humanity's suffering, and concrete crosses and tombstones are gathered in the corners. The bar itself is fully stocked with all types of alcohol and mixers, along with an array of bar food to help keep your energy up.

At the head of the room lounging among the statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin are Blue Hawaiian, Cosmopolitan and Midori.

Above them hangs another hand-painted banner, sloppily thrown together.

CONGRATS ON YOUR TRIAL!
12pm - 9pm
Vote or suffer eternal damnation

You can try to leave, but the door to the bar has been locked. All of the windows are reinforced, and there isn't another way out. You've been called here for one reason...let the misery begin!

Hello, and welcome to your third trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about this week's murder! Characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, we have a voting page for characters to vote on the culprit! Please be sure to read this page carefully and that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST).

Good luck, and have fun!

I think it's a pertinent question all around: why did the octopus transform into what it did, and what does that mean for the events that transpired here.

[He shrugs.]

I wasn't well-acquainted enough with the deceased to say either way. Mayhap someone who knew him better could.

I didn't either. [A sigh.] I suppose we'll just have to see.

[ nodding to this... ]

It also may be relevant that the two versions of Cosmos both had the same head injury - that's the sort of thing someone just doesn't come back from. Did they both occur at the same time? And if they did, then how? Or was the octopus just copying what it saw?
onlythans: (💔 these guys don't like me)

[personal profile] onlythans 2023-02-25 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that we've acquired both bodies, mayhap we should take a look and determine whether they're simply similar injuries, or identical ones.

The best fighter to ever live would still be hard-pressed to enact two perfectly identical head injuries. But a creature imitating what it sees is a much different story.

The two head injuries weren't identical.

[personal profile] onlythans 2023-02-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Less likely to be the result of copying, then. Does that imply someone inflicted a head injury on both?

I wasn't personally acquainted with the creature, I'm not aware of how perfect a mimic it was.
engineers: (if ur still dehydrated in the NSE)

[personal profile] engineers 2023-02-25 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't really either - just in snatches.

[ this octopus sucks ] But... I'm not sure. We know that Cosmos' own hands were around his neck at some point in time - or, the hands of the octopus duplicate were around the original's neck, and that the octopus lost an arm at some point in time, and both heads were bashed in. The octopus version had bruises on his body all over, while the regular one did not - just the impact bruise of the CPR.

It'd help to be able to establish a timeline.
onlythans: (💔 then aim for my heart if you feel like)

[personal profile] onlythans 2023-02-25 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I do wonder about the hands around his neck. If a larger hand wanted to leave a smaller mark, could they not put theirs over his and squeeze, just the same?

The fact that they seem to be from his own hands might not exonerate others quite as much as it might seem at first blush.
outsidebones: (and to make things less weird)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-02-25 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it possible someone attacked...Cosmos, thinking they were attacking the octopus?

Could be something scary, or it can turn into like ... people you care about, right? Like they were drownin' in the tank, and needed help.
outsidebones: (the horses they were neighing)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-02-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It is possible. Perhaps that is why the tank was broken to begin with - to free the person they thought trapped.

[ oooooh nooooo. ]

So we gotta find something they coulda broken the tank with, right? That glass is pretty thick, you'd have to get a good whack at it.

If whoever did that wants to own up to it and help us figure this out, now would be a great time for it!
