WEEK TWO - TRIAL

Hello, deadlings. Wow. Just...wow.

You may have been wondering what you could possibly do in the aftermath of yesterday's beek. Your demons weren't entirely helpful, and it seems that there were no answers to be found. But on Saturday morning at 11am, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. The Execution Bar is locked tight and you won't be able to head in that direction. Instead, once again, your feet navigate you to the building on the right as the door creaks open.

Inside is a bar. It's dimly lit in several places, but bright enough for you to see each other and navigate without running into the furniture. Tables and chairs are scattered around in front of the bar counter, and the floor is far less sticky than the bar on the other island. Stained glass windows decorate the walls depicting images of humanity's suffering, and concrete crosses and tombstones are gathered in the corners. The bar itself is fully stocked with all types of alcohol and mixers, along with an array of bar food to help keep your energy up.

At the head of the room lounging among the statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin are Blue Hawaiian, Cosmopolitan and Midori.

Above them hangs another hand-painted banner, sloppily thrown together.

CONGRATS ON YOUR TRIAL!
12pm - 9pm
Vote or suffer eternal damnation

You can try to leave, but the door to the bar has been locked. All of the windows are reinforced, and there isn't another way out. You've been called here for one reason...let the misery begin!

Hello, and welcome to your third trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about this week's murder! Characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, we have a voting page for characters to vote on the culprit! Please be sure to read this page carefully and that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST).

Good luck, and have fun!

...I have a thought, but I am afraid it is extraordinarily foolish.

[and since you guys were laughing at her earlier she's reluctant to say something this dumb, but.]

What if the persuasion drink was used to persuade the octopus to adopt a particular form?

[kuranosuke

actually thinks this is a great idea]

To like, throw us off? [...thinking...] Well, if that's what they did, it's working!

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-02-25 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
...it'd make us spend time thinking about why that was the case, assuming it acted normally instead of agreeing to it.
ontrend: (026)

[personal profile] ontrend 2023-02-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If they could convince it to change forms, that actually opens up a whole 'nother can of worms.

Who says they only did it once? Maybe they stayed out of the way and didn't even make any footprints or handprints. What if they convinced it to change forms and to leave those marks to throw us off?
voidshift: (lowe2)

[personal profile] voidshift 2023-02-25 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't the footprints look different, then-? I think we can at the very least assume it died looking like him, though, that's still-- something. And if it might not have mimicked the injuries, that says something as well.
ontrend: (014)

[personal profile] ontrend 2023-02-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. It was clearly up and moving around after the tank broke. It could have been in the form of whatever left the larger prints at that time, and whoever else was there could have avoided leaving any. And then after that it could have taken his form and died.
outsidebones: (and to make things less weird)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-02-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Either to adopt Cosmos's form, but even to adopt someone else's hand and foot size, to frame them.

[it's soooo stupid but so was firearm.]

It is at least not stupider than the octopus having a drink.

[personal profile] toyska 2023-02-25 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly makes more sense than the octopus suddenly developing a taste for alcohol all on its own.

[Which is also not impossible in this dumbass game but he really hopes it was this instead tbh]
outsidebones: (crooked hammer back)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-02-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
But that leaves us...absolutely nowhere.

[ugh.]

Still, I think it is worth considering the three beverages and what use they may have had. And also worth considering the lipstick.

[personal profile] ontrend 2023-02-25 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
...I guess it's just a matter of - does the persuasion only work on us? Or would it work on the octopus?

[...]

Want me to go ask the demons, or did you want to since you came up with the idea?
outsidebones: (trident gum is the chewiest gum)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-02-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to never think about this again. You may ask.

Yep. Any creature in Hell except the demons themselves, apparently.

[personal profile] cavaliered 2023-02-26 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[well this is great news not that gideon knows what to do with it]

So it could've transformed into someone else for framing purposes? Is that where we're going with this?
outsidebones: (the bones are their money)

[personal profile] outsidebones 2023-02-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's still a stupid concept and I'm not convinced. I think the octopus could have been convinced to do something, but I do not know precisely what.

Still, out of an abundance of caution, I am no longer certain we should abide by the hand and foot check lists.
cavaliered: (39.)

[personal profile] cavaliered 2023-02-26 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
[harrow her brain is tired. it is so small and terrible.]

You're not going to hear me argue that one. [...] If we can't trust those, though, what should we be looking for?

Could've been for framing purposes, could've been to make it look like the victim right after he died, maybe in the hope that there being two bodies would make us waste time comparing our weapons or whatever against the wrong injuries.

It was transformed into the victim though, right? Unless it transformed into someone else first and then the victim? Would it even cooperate for two transformations?

Fuck that! It's time to lose "losing the will to live"!

[personal profile] failbo 2023-02-25 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
...that does sound like it could have happened. I mean, given how this trial is going? Sure! Maybe--Maybe that happened!

[Sure sounds silly enough to be it!]

Considering the unexpected amount of involvement this octopus seem to have had outside of its tank, it's not impossible.

Considering how the past two trials have gone, why not this as a possibility.
