WEEK THREE - TRIAL

Hello, deadlings. We're right back at it, huh?

You may have been wondering what you could possibly do in the aftermath of yesterday's beek. Your demons weren't entirely helpful, and it seems that there were no answers to be found. But on Saturday morning at 11am, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. The Execution Bar is locked tight and you won't be able to head in that direction. Instead, once again, your feet navigate you to the building on the right as the door creaks open.

Inside is a bar. It's dimly lit in several places, but bright enough for you to see each other and navigate without running into the furniture. Tables and chairs are scattered around in front of the bar counter, and the floor is far less sticky than the bar on the other island. Stained glass windows decorate the walls depicting images of humanity's suffering, and concrete crosses and tombstones are gathered in the corners. The bar itself is fully stocked with all types of alcohol and mixers, along with an array of bar food to help keep your energy up.

At the head of the room lounging among the statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin are Bloody Mary, Malibu Sunset and Rosé. With them is also a cut-out of Guy Fieri, dressed as a (sexy?) samurai with a bunch of cool flames cut out of construction paper glued to his back as he walks away from an explosion. He is also holding a sign that says "YOU CAN SOLVE IT!" However, there are now paper tears glued to his face as well.

Above them hangs another hand-painted banner, sloppily thrown together.

You can try to leave, but the door to the bar has been locked. All of the windows are reinforced, and there isn't another way out. You've been called here for one reason...let the misery begin!

Hello, and welcome to your fourth trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about this week's murder! Characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, we have a voting page for characters to vote on the culprit! Please be sure to read this page carefully and that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST).

[ the laptop is dead :( since rynlan is looking at the larger items, kuranosuke can start to check through the debris and notice there appears to be some glass shards on the ground. there is also a small set of blood droplets that turn into an actual trail heading toward the back of the house. and amongst the debris appears to be something soft and white.

there are two larger items on the ground amongst the wreckage. one is closer to the wall than the other, so the first object rynlan sees appears to be a bug catcher's net. at a glance, he may see something that looks like a weapon on the ground as well.

she is absolutely upset about the hamster on fire, yeah. ljh probably won't be able to head back to the house just yet, because since he's sweeping the path of the beach and where the bird was he'll spot what appears to be a glass bottle threatening to drift back out to sea. ]

[oh, hm.

kuranosuke will take pictures of the placement of the glass shards, the blood droplets, and the trail, then pick up the glass shards and the soft and white thing. he'll give it a glance to get a general idea of what it is, and then will move to follow the trail of blood to the back of the house. where does it lead...]

[he's leaving the weapon for now, because i have a very important question about the net. is the net part fully flat? like, looks like there's nothing in it?

if the answer to this is that it looks like there IS potentially something in it or he can't tell, he's cautiously nudging the net frame with his left foot. if not then he's carefully turning the net part inside out.]

[ oh good. love it. the lava sea... he will pivot and make his way to the floating bottle. how far out is it? can he just reach with am arm's length if he's fast enough and gets close enough to the lava without touching the lava itself (ow)?

come here bottle! mine! also he's wearing gloves so i guess maybe that might help a little with heat from the bottle? or they might catch fire idk, either way priority is grabbing it even if he has to climb something to get a little further out. i hope the recipe is good. ]

[ kuranosuke now has glass shards, and find that the soft white thing is a feather! there appear to be a few other white feathers amongst the debris, too. he can begin to follow the trail, and he will see that it seems to lead right toward the back wall...?

the net is flat! there is nothing in the net itself. it looks fine, it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it.

meanwhile, ljh is able to snatch the bottle without burning his hand. the bird continues to cry about her dead friend somewhere down the beach, and when ljh opens the bottle he's going to find a letter. ]

[he will pick up each of the feathers as he goes along... thinking back, does it seem like they might have matched the feathers of the bird that ran out of the house earlier?

and hmm. back wall, huh? he'll knock on it in a couple of different places to see if it seems solid or if this might be on of those like, hidden door/sneaky disguised wall situations.]

[ok cool. he'll leave the net alone for now and move on to the weapon-- what do we have here?]

[ oh hell yeah thanks for my new recipe. i guess he'd read the message if he's allowed, or at least see who its from before scrambling away from the lava and glancing around the beach and at the. flaming hamster, crying bird, and boat mess one more time. is there anything else here? footprints? drag marks? pockets of blood in the sand :yeti:

anything else out in the lava if he glances out at it? pockets of cooled off areas at all?

otherwise THEN he will make his way back to the house. ]

[ it's possible, but he won't really have a chance to examine the feathers that closely at the moment. however, he now has a total of four. as kuranosuke heads for the back wall, he can knock! he will not find any sort of hidden door, but he will find a small hole in the wall. and the faint sound of hissing.

rynlan, meanwhile, finds a sword? this is definitely a sword. there is some more garbage thrown about, including an actual garbage can tucked out of the way. on occasion, the machines will spark and flicker due to the damage taken.

ljh does not find anything else of note on the beach, so he can go back to the house now just in time for whatever the hell is going on here. ]

slams his hands down over the hole to block it off, mostly because he has nothing with him to keep whatever is hissing in that hole. this is the dumbest possible thing he could do.]

Yo, Rynlan! There's a snake in here! Get Lin Jingheng and his harpoon gun!!

[he looks up

looks at kuranosuke's hands over the hole

his ears perk STRAIGHT UP in alarm as he grabs the net and quickly gets up, hurrying over to join him.]

Move move move--!

[he's shoving kura's hands away to slap the net over the hole this shit is what lin comes back to]

[ he leaves you two alone for fucking five minutes and here you are doing exactly what you told him not to do? ]

[ he is pocketing the bottle in his coat for safe-keeping quickly and bringing his harpoon gun out to aim it at the stupid snake. he's gonna hold off on shooting it unless it slithers out of ryn's net.... then he will shoot it.

the snake rockets out of the hole because of the threat of danger and a mod nat 20, tearing straight through the net and past all of them into malibu's arms. there's a moment where they don't seem to move, frozen for a bit as they look at this kind of large snake before draping it around their neck gingerly.

and they raise an eyebrow. ]

Giving you guys harpoon guns was such a mistake.

freaking out a little and doing the "points at eyes, points at you, HO DON'T DO IT" thing at the snake. DO NOT BITE MALIBU.]

It was a huge mistake! No harpooning in here! None! There's evidence in this house!

[his voice is a little shrill, tentacles highly wiggly with adrenaline after fucking ROCKET SNAKE.

pointing first to kuranosuke and then to lin-]

Hole! Sword! Look at them so we can get out of here before anyone does anything else!

[he's going to look in the garbage to see if anything out of place was thrown away, what is in here. then he will look at the machines to try to see Why they are sparking.]

No take-backs. You made one of those snakes your pet?

[ he lowers the gun and raise a brow at malibu and the snake because like damn, probably for the better the he didn't murder a reptile in front of zhanlu, but he ain't really thinkin abt that rn.

instead, he will look around for any claw marks at all on the walls, ceiling, and floor... ]

[ just. looking at kuranosuke suddenly. ]

Um. How many times have you been bitten?

[ rynlan can look in the trash and he will find what looks like a broken camera, a few crumpled posters and a broken picture frame. looking at the machines, it looks as though they're sparking mostly because they have taken a solid beating. there are damages and pieces missing, chunks that have been broken off and exposing wires and metal.

malibu also then looks at ljh and seems to be using both hands to hold up this snake's head and tail. the snake hisses once more. ]

I don't know if I'd call it a pet... [ there do not seem to be any claw marks though! ]

A lot! [he makes a face] I fell asleep outside here the other night, remember? Damn snakes!

[he huffs



anyway he'll do as rynlan suggests and look into the hole. i guess this means putting his eye up against it and peering in. what does he see. can he fit his hand in there? he'll try to reach in and see if he can feel anything inn there if it's too dark to see anything.]

he's just going to bring the whole can in case this stuff is relevant, they can go through what might be a hamster's garbage in evidence. that's fine.]

Lin, you'll know more about the machines, see if you can tell what damaged them.

[speaking of: sword time. just to be sure, it's not like, laying in blood/clearly messy/anything that can be seen obviously now as opposed to evidence check later?]

I'm not an engineer. But I'll have a look.

[ idk is there anything he can tell if he goes over to look at these machines himself. can he have a look at how exactly they've taken a beating? do they look slashed at all? or is it more like they were pounded in? (he will take some pictures.) ]

Do these even have a purpose here?

[ when kuranosuke looks in the hole, he finds...nothing! he can fit his hand in there, and he can even feel around a bit but the doesn't appear to be much of anything of interest aside from some cold, damp spots.

the sword is not laying in a puddle of blood or anything, no, but any further checks will have to be done later.

looking at the machines closer, they have a few dents and the like, pieces broken off and a few scratches in the metal. they were just beaten the fuck up lads.

malibu holds this snake and also seems to be waiting for kuranosuke's answer. ]

Hell if I know, dude. I drink to forget the pain.

[anyway, feeling around in the hole... the damp spots... ugh, i hate that i'm writing this. but he presses his fingers down on the damp spots to try to get whatever is making it, uh, damp, on his fingers. then he looks at them when he pulls his hand out of the hole - any discoloration there? i also hate that i'm writing this, but he'll bring his hand up to sniff. any particular scent?]

[he's picking up the garbage can and net. someone else will need to carry back the sword.]

Think we'd better get all this back. Get a couple of good images of the machines while we're here and that should do it.

[ he is just finishing up with the pictures to make sure they're steady before turning just in time to see kuranosuke sniff his hand and just.

godspeed, kuranosuke. ]

[ kuranosuke pulls out his hand and sees it's slightly pinkish-red on the tips of his fingers. when he smells it, it's a faintly copper-y smell. ]
