WEEK SEVEN: ENDGAME

Rise and shine, little deadlings. It's the dawn of the final day. The oppressive heat of Hell seems to rise and fall around you, and no matter where you slept last night you'll find that all of the islands across this realm are buzzing with excitement. You all know what comes next. Take some time, gather yourselves, and maybe even have some breakfast. Pick out your best party outfits and brush up on your etiquette. At about eleven in the morning, all participants single-dead and double-dead will find themselves on the receiving end of a new DM.

party starts in an hour!! if you're not in line now, you're gonna miss the start!!

Better start making your way to those wrought-iron gates at the edge of the city. You can see it now, the giant mansion situated at the top of the volcano, but it's still a distance away. The line seems to crawl, slowly, and as you draw closer you'll see several demons and humans being let through and just as many being turned away. But you? Lucky you...as you approach, a flickering shadow three times your size looks you over before letting you through the gate. There's a bridge strung over a pool of lava, wobbling with your every step as your skin practically boils you alive.

But then...as you approach the front doors? The Mansion Welcomes You.

Come on in! You were invited, after all. The party's just getting started but there isn't a shortage of humans and demons already milling around the property as music blasts from all directions. Immediately as you enter, you'll see a large sign hanging in the foyer advertising today's drink-off. There's also a list of names under it:

WE WILL START THE DRINK-OFF IN A FEW HOURS. All drink-off threads will be wrapped and finalized by 9pm EST/6pm PST (normal trial hours.)

[He reaches up to his ears to use the arms of the shades to flip them up and down over his eyes a few times. He smirks.]

Thanks. I had a some help from someone who knows what they're doing. Have you seen him around? I can't find him.

[twinsightful]

[ stop. terrible. he is not doing it back, his heart-shaped glasses stay right where they are even if he's still grinning. ]

Hm...maybe I can help you find him? I should thank him for all his hard work.

[tearduct]

Oh yeah?

[He lifts the shades up to rest in the front of his hair. He glances around them, pretending to search.]

Might be hard to find. Has red hair, sunglasses, a white shirt. Ring any bells?

[twinsightful]

[ bringing a finger up to his chin to tap in mock-thought. ]

Hmm...it sounds familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it. [ shrug! ] Oh well. I guess you're just stuck with me until then~

[ he says this but akira's still standing and kaoru's still laying on this lounge chair. ]

[tearduct]

[He laughs.]

I guess so.

[He turns around and sits on the lounge chair near Kaoru's legs. It'd be funny if it was the folding ones and it folded immediately up on them because he weighs too much.]

[ he sits up a little, reaching forward to fix akira's necklace a bit. i'm not letting them eat shit right now, stop. ]

Hey. [ just. hey. ] How're you feeling about...everything? Are you ready?

[tearduct]

[He sits up to allow this before resting his arms on his thighs. One shoulder sort of shrugs.]

No choice but to be ready. I'm... okay.

[twinsightful]

[ the same hand is moving to fiddle with akira's hair to fix part of it. ]

Okay is good enough. [ a half-grin. ] The contest isn't for a little while so you have some time at least. May as well pregame a little.

[tearduct]

[He closes one eye, then both of them, then opens them again to watch everyone else.]

Mm. [His gaze is a bit distant, but then he glances at Kaoru.] Yeah. I'll probably hang out with everyone until then.

[twinsightful]

[ hm...he's kind of following akira's gaze while he's playing with his hair. ]

Yeah. I figured as much. That's what the party's for, you know? Hang out with your friends and enjoy yourself until you have to face Alex. [ there's a pause. ] I don't mind if that's what you're thinking.

[tearduct]

I know. People back home never really had... house parties exactly. Not like this? Sort of.

[His brows furrow, then his expression softens.]

I'll still hang out with you guys too.

[twinsightful]

I told you about ours. They were a little less chaotic than this, but I can't say I mind the energy of this one.

[ but he settles for a soft laugh at that. ]

Whenever you want. The party's a whole big thing and I'm not going anywhere. [ a beat. ] None of us are, but you know what I mean. Even if you wander off and can't find me later just text me.

[ but he offers a sippy of his drink. there's no milk in it, it is just a very colorful cocktail. ]

[tearduct]

It... sure has an energy.

[THERE IS SO MUCH HAPPENING. There is so much that's going to happen. He looks at everyone else again.]

Okay, I'll text if I can't find you. [Oh. He'll have a sip.] I can see why you guys all liked Satan so much.

[twinsightful]

[ there sure is a lot going on. he's still out here playing with akira's hair while akira's got his drink, but he grins at the mention of satan. ]

Yeah, she's pretty cool. Alex has been working really hard lately so we've been picking up a little slack where we can. [ ... ] But that doesn't mean I don't want you to try and beat her anyway.

[tearduct]

[He's gonna keep idly sipping it until it's all gone like this if it's not taken away. He leans his head forward just slightly to make room.]

I know. Don't worry... I won't go easy even if she's cute.

[twinsightful]

[ the bar is literally right there and hikaru will get him a new drink later, it's fine. he does nudge him though because hey, asshole, share if you're going to do that. he does nothing to remove his hand at this point. ]

Man, don't call my boss cute. It's weird. [ pouting a little as well. ] I mean yeah she is, but rude.

[tearduct]

[WELL. Right... He hands the drink back. Listen.]

See? Maybe you shouldn't have a cute boss then. I can't help that.

[Nudges back. He's kidding.]

[ sippy. ]

Like it's my fault? [ nudging again. he gets it, but also: ] Keep talking like that and you're going to hurt my feelings~

[tearduct]

[He closes one eye for a moment or two.]

I'm just teasing. I mean, she is, but, you know what I mean.

[twinsightful]

Yeah, I know. [ he can also agree alex is objectively cute? that is a fact. a few scritches at the base of akira's scalp. ] Anyway...we're going to watch the contest when it gets started. But no pressure.

[ teasing. ]

[tearduct]

[The head tilts farther forward.... It gets rid of some of the weird jitters.]

Great... You guys get to see me end up on the floor.

[twinsightful]

[ he figured, yeah, so these continue until morale approves. ]

You'll probably be fine. [ debatable, because it is a drinking contest. he glances around the party though and hums a little. ] Anything I can do to help? Preparations or whatever.

[tearduct]

[Morale mildly increasing.]

I don't know, especially when everyone is starting early.

[Help him. It's fine. He lifts his head. The shades had slid forward so far they drop back down over his eyes, and he has to lift them again.]

I dunno. I'm alright, I guess.

[twinsightful]

Why do you think we've put you through tolerance training for weeks? Everyone starts drinking and screwing around at the party before the contest starts, and then when they face off against Satan they're already at a slight disadvantage. But with Alex it might be a little different. Just try not to get too wasted beforehand and do something you'll regret.

[ there go the shades, he watches this happen and still doesn't let up. ]

If you're sure. I'm. [ he pauses though, debating if he wants to continue. ] ...look, no matter what happens with the contest it'll be fine. Right? So try not to stress out.

[tearduct]

I know.

[Thinks about the future when he's had so many drinks because he kept losing Never Have I Ever. Hilarious. It's fine. He has demon in him.

He straightens up to glance at him, then smiles a bit.]

I'm okay. I mean... I know it'll be okay.
