WEEK TWO - TRIAL

Hello, deadlings. Wow. Just...wow.

You may have been wondering what you could possibly do in the aftermath of yesterday's beek. Your demons weren't entirely helpful, and it seems that there were no answers to be found. But on Saturday morning at 11am, you'll soon hear a sound coming from the dock. There's a large ferry waiting for you, and even if you resist you'll eventually find yourself compelled to climb aboard and set off on a short voyage. The islands around you look fairly blurry, but you don't go very far before you stop at a slab of land with two large buildings stationed. The Execution Bar is locked tight and you won't be able to head in that direction. Instead, once again, your feet navigate you to the building on the right as the door creaks open.

Inside is a bar. It's dimly lit in several places, but bright enough for you to see each other and navigate without running into the furniture. Tables and chairs are scattered around in front of the bar counter, and the floor is far less sticky than the bar on the other island. Stained glass windows decorate the walls depicting images of humanity's suffering, and concrete crosses and tombstones are gathered in the corners. The bar itself is fully stocked with all types of alcohol and mixers, along with an array of bar food to help keep your energy up.

At the head of the room lounging among the statues of saints and the Blessed Virgin are Blue Hawaiian, Cosmopolitan and Midori.

Above them hangs another hand-painted banner, sloppily thrown together.

You can try to leave, but the door to the bar has been locked. All of the windows are reinforced, and there isn't another way out. You've been called here for one reason...let the misery begin!

Hello, and welcome to your third trial! Over the course of the next nine hours, characters will have the opportunity to discuss, investigate and theorize about this week's murder! Characters will have time to examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations.

There will be a mod-tag break between 4pm EST/1pm PST to 5pm EST/2pm PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

Finally, we have a voting page for characters to vote on the culprit! Please be sure to read this page carefully and that your vote is in by the time trial finishes (9pm EST/6pm PST).

[ cosmopolitan ushers the three of them out of the room and onto the ferry, heading back to subnutica and toward the aquarium. they stop at the entrance of the aquarium tunnels, looking around at some of the tanks.

there's the faint sound of dripping water from somewhere deep within the area. ]

Well...go ahead.

Oh, dear. It would be such a shame if the aquarium glass broke and the octopus was dead.

[this is said to cosmo but it is so rude. anyway hello. she won't walk in right away she'll start by looking in from the doorway to get a sense of what's up in the room, and also to notice if there's anything heading out from the door - broken glass? water? footprints? an entire arm?]

[ rest assured that whatever mephisto did on the ferry ride over was very annoying. ]

What, not a fan of its impressions?

[ anyway, he'll slip by and start to follow the dripping sound to at least get an idea of which direction it's coming from, unless there's something he'd step in on the way, in which case he will politely Not. ]

[ yeah since harrow has looking at the front entrance covered, he will also just walk in unless there is something that will immediately stop them i guess

but he'll go to look at the tanks as he walks. everything good in there? the fish vibing? nothing floating ominously? ]

[ there's a laugh from cosmopolitan because yeah, it's rude, but also she's so valid? she is so valid. looking around immediately at the entrance of the aquarium tunnel, there isn't much to be found here. the tanks are fine. the walkway is clear. there's nothing in the door...and as mephisto starts to follow the dripping sound he'll find that it's growing louder. it's no longer just a few drips of water, but more like larger splashes steadily hitting the floor from somewhere deeper in the aquarium. it grows darker as they walk in, heading past other tanks.

ryo will also follow, it seems. but, quite suddenly, he takes one step and soon finds himself slipping on a large puddle of water and losing his footing. ahead of the three of them, more water seems to be spreading slowing toward them from the direction of a tank somewhere beyond their vision. ]

[i can't believe this mod just decreed that ryo falls on his ass into a puddle and it looks like he peed his pants for the rest of trial. valid.

she will take this as a cue to be very cautious in where she steps, then. but she will head in the direction the water is coming from, bracing herself with a hand on the tanks as she goes. if she passes ryo and heads in that direction, can she see any broken tanks?]

he continues in the direction of the water sound, and if it gets too dark, he'll take his phone out of his pocket and shine the flashlight ahead of them to make sure they aren't missing anything. ]

[ he just fucking eats shit and dies I guess

he blinks in confusion?? before getting back to his feet. okay. ryo wanders after them...

is there any sign of any displaced sea animals because a broken tank that is filled with fish does not sound great. ]

[ since you're all now going the same way, including ryo who ate shit and died...

...yes! there is in fact a broken tank ahead! as they walk further into the area, they are soon hit with the rancid smell of dead fish. there's water on the ground, along with some broken glass that's been swept up in the little river, but the biggest mess is next to the very obviously broken tank.

there are also several things on the ground that they can see from where they are, but they're still too far to get a good sense even with the light from mephisto's phone. there's a larger object near the tank itself, bundled on the ground. there are several smaller items nearby the larger object as well.

water is still dripping out of the tank as well.

what first? ]

[well. okay.

what's the big object bundled on the ground. she'll approach, carefully.]

[ damn, if they hadn't waited a whole day, maybe they could have had more free sushi. :(

he'll go over to get a look at the smaller objects! ]

[ well.

ryo will go check out the actual tank itself then. how exactly is it broken? hole? the non sexy kind? ]

[ let's start with the tank first! the tank is pretty smashed! there are giant cracks and a large hole in the glass, a little jagged like something ran into it. there's glass and water all over the floor, and the tank itself is still slowly depleting itself of water as seaweed and tank decorations sway ominously. since ryo is also looking, he may notice there appears to be a smudge of something on the glass that's still in-tact.

as mephisto looks at the smaller objects, he'll see even more glass. and amongst the glass there's water...and some blood? splatters of blood spread throughout the ground around the tank. he also finds what appears to be a room key? and a small notebook is found not too far from that, bringing him closer to where harrow is.

because when harrow looks at the larger object, she finds..........

a body. ]

[oh neat.]

Hmm, interesting - there's a body here.

[just matter of factly. she'll try to turn it over or get a better look at it? is it a person? a mannequin? the stupid octopus? nameless chunks? any details she can make out?]

[ hm! he'll snap a quick photo of that before carefully picking up the key and notebook in a handkerchief.

and then he'll glance over whatever the fuck harrow just unwrapped, because ??? ]

Of a human, or what?

[ does it look like these blood splatters came from that?? ]

[ he just glances over at them at the mention of the body then looks back at the tank. none of his business.

ryo takes a picture of it, and then goes to look closer at the hole. is it like, smaller or larger than his body? size of his head? torso? what's a good idea of it

also, what is this lil smudged thing ]

[ the blood splatters look like they came from kind of everywhere. it's possible that they came from the body, but there are splatters spread out away from the body itself, too, amongst the glass and the water and the dead fish on the ground.

the hole in the tank is a little larger than ryo, enough that he could slip in there if he wanted. water continues to drip, and as he looks at the glass he'll notice a large smudge of blood in a vague shape. sort of round, with four or five oblong streaks.

anyway while those two are doing that, harrow turns over the body and she gets a good look at who it is. it very much looks like a person, hair matted with blood at the top where the head is bashed in. the body is wet to the touch, but any further details may need to be examined in a different body investigation.

however, she and the other two will immediately recognize this person as Nameless. ]

[lol crazy.]

...It appears to be! One of you must carry it back. This is quite interesting, don't you think?

[saves it for body investigation, but she will take some pictures of how the body is laid out. can i get some more detail on how it's laid out? was it bundled up in something? is there anything beneath it, like glass or anything?]

...Well, that's something.

[ snaps another picture! ]

Are we sure it's not the octopus?

[ he'll carry it back if he has to, but he's not volunteering now, so he'll wander back off to look at some other stuff nearby...

like... the dead fish, he guesses. holding his nose and looking at these sad fucks. are these from any particularly memorable display or just random fish? ]

[ whoa that's wild. hopefully this is the octopus and not the other guy anyway

ryo will take another picture, this one of the smudged shape so the others can see it. is there anything that stands out at the floor next to the tank? or is it just water and glass

actually speaking of water as he turns to examine it more he trips over the water again and just falls right into the tank ]

[ the body is laid out pretty nicely, just like it's lying down. the notebook that mephisto found was close nearby, and the body is among glass, blood and water.

the fish on the ground are pretty random and also pretty dead and stinky. gross.

the water and glass appears to be all there is on the ground near the tank (and blood! can't forget the blood), though there appears to be a trail of something or other heading off in another direction.

ryo falls in the tank. goodbye ryo. enjoy your swim among the water and possibly broken glass inside the tank itself. water is displaced. things move around. plants and other objects try to wrap around him just by nature of being pushed around. ]

Good question.

[harrow will get up and start to look through the various tanks for the octopus? ryo can drown it's fine but is the octopus still around?]

cool, so anything else in here if he looks around the rest of the room outside of the tanks while harrow looks in them for the octopus? is all the mess confined to a space around this one tank? ]

anyway he is just going to try to shove everything around him as he tries to get out of the fish tank. get off.

when he does manage to get out, wet and probably with cuts I guess GLASS he will. look back at the trail he saw before he fell in and. look at the others. then leaves to follow it without speaking to either of them ]

[ well. first of all, no, the octopus is nowhere to be found.

as mephisto looks around, he'll notice that most of the mess is confined to a space around this one tank. however, now that he's looking a little closer, he will notice there's a trail of bloody droplets leading back from the direction they came, toward the outer hub of the pleasure district.

as for ryo, he gets to feel slimy, wet things under his hands as he struggles and gets himself out of the tank. there he goes. anyway, he looks at the trail and begins to follow. as he goes, he will notice that the trail appears to be wet footprints and bigger droplets of blood intermingling with the water. they are leading in the direction of the onsen. ]
